Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Evaluate and report on prospective students based on approved selection criteria and generate reports together with the head of special education
2. Evaluate the admitted children and prepare intervention plan for each child including admission, progress, and exit.
3. Execution of the plan in a way that interests the child
4. One to one and group intervention as required
5. Develop daily lesson plans in discussion with immediate supervisor; maintain daily progress reports and activity reports for each child.
6. Ensure safety of each child and minimize liability for the school.
7. Maintain and up to date filing of all relevant records in concerned student files.
8. Correspond with parents on the progress of each child and suggest techniques for training at home through approved channels.
9. Involve the children, parents and caretakers in the program of intervention to ensure post training practice and follow up.
10. Train staff and parents on how to develop speech of the child
11. Apply and teach Makaton signs and symbols where required, or other benchmarked techniques and approaches in discussion with the Head of special education
12. Synthesizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence-based intervention.
13. Record and report on the progress of each child to be presented at parent teacher meetings, and periodically as required by the immediate supervisor.
14. Be accountable for all educational aids and equipment assigned to them or under their care for their classes.
15. Work as a team with other staff members
16. Plan and participate in extra curricular activities
17. Participates in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice
18. Uses professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision making in practice.
19. Handle other activities as directed by the Supervisor and the Director.
Desired Candidate Profile
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
• Have successfully completed and graduated from an accredited Speech therapy professional program recognized by national governments and have completed all fieldwork requirements.
• Three years of experience as an speech therapist, preferably in school system or other pediatric practice setting handling children with special needs.
• Initial certification by National Board for Certification of Speech Therapy or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
At least Three (3) years of experience in similar work in similar setting.
